Arizona Veterinary Internal Medicine Ultrasound Imaging

Echocardiography

Dr. Church performs echocardiography with a new, state-of-the-art, GE Vivid-I® ultrasound machine. The Vivid-I ultrasound machine has excellent two dimensional harmonic imaging along with Doppler modalities such as pulse wave, continuous wave, color flow, and tissue velocity imaging. These capabilities allow comprehensive evaluation of valvular insufficiencies, outflow obstructions, complex congenital heart disease, and systolic pump function. These combined technology features allow early and accurate detection of a wide range of cardiac disease conditions.

Most procedures can be planned for the same day as the initial appointment for your convenience. If your pet is having an echocardiography study performed, some simple preparation will be required prior to the procedure. It will be necessary to clip your pet’s hair in the area of the study. Most echocardiography studies are performed without sedating the patient. Some pets require sedation, however, in order to obtain the most accurate echocardiography examination possible.

What is Ultrasonography?...

Diagnostic ultrasonography is a non-invasive and non-painful tool used for the early detection, diagnosis, and staging of many diseases in animals. Ultrasonography is the preferred imaging modality to evaluate soft tissue density structures and is especially useful to evaluate fluid accumulations of the chest or abdomen. Ultrasonography also provides a minimally invasive method to obtain biopsy samples needed for the diagnosis of many conditions. In order to provide optimal specialty care for our patients, diagnostic ultrasonography is performed at AVS by our board-certified veterinary radiologist at Arizona Veterinary Imaging.
